Annapolis Book Festival

From Time's 100 Must Read Books of 2023, Absolution is Alice McDermott's ninth novel. This was the Cheuse Center's sixth year bringing writers to the Festival in conversations on international subjects. Ms. McDermott was in conversation with Cheuse Center Director, Leeya Mehta.

The event was on 27th April, 2024 at the Key School, 534 Hillsmere Drive, Annapolis, MD 21403. Join us again next year.

Alice McDermott is the author of Absolution, a novel set in Vietnam and America. She is the author of nine novels, all published by FSG, including Charming Billy, winner of the National Book Award, and That Night, At Weddings and Wakes, and After This, which were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. She is also the author of the essay collection What About the Baby?: Some Thoughts on the Art of Fiction. Her stories and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, and other publications. She lives outside Washington, DC. Fun fact: McDermott has some great stories about meeting the Pope not once, but twice this year.
